While traveling south on Highway 91, about 5 miles north of West Yellowstone, Montana, I happened upon this Bison walking down the road.
It is important to remember that Buffs ALWAYS have the right of way. They have been known to charge and destroy vehicles (Even large
pickup trucks) that annoy them. When driving in or around Yellowstone Park, if a buffalo approaches you head on, stop, look, but DON'T get out
of the vehicle. These pictures were taken from the safety (?!?!) of my pickup, at a range of about 25 feet. (8 meters)
Photo taken with a 50mm lens on a Yashica FX-3. Exposure not recorded.

While driving through the park one spring my wife and I encountered these elk, still in velvet, bedded down not 100 feet from the road. Since
these are wild animals I did not approach, nor did I get out of my car, but used a telephoto lens to try and capture their peaceful existence. This
is not a very good photo in the technical aspects, but given the late hour (30 minutes after sunset) the slow speed film I used, and the Kmart processing
I'm happy it came out at all!

Near Kelowna, British Columbia Canada there is a butterfly habitat where you can go in and see butterflies in their natural environment. This spectacular
example is known as a Glass Wing.
|
|
I forgot the name of this type of butterfly, but was taken with the irridescent blue wings.

Another beautiful butterfly, almost a monochromatic.

This otherwise plain looking butterfly was up against the window. The sky was overcast and it was raining. Together I thought they made an
interesting combination.

While visiting the Calgary, Alberta (Canada) zoo we saw this interesting tableau. Just what do you hand feed a hippo, and how do you keep your hand?

|
If ever there were an animal that appeared wise and world-weary it must be this rhino.

In Bozeman, Montana, in front of a bank, a local artist created a herd of metal elk. These were put up rather quickly (In the middle of the night it is
rumored) with no announcement. This bank sits on a triangle of land and the main road into town curves around it to the left. At night it is quite
startling to see elk grazing on the bank lawn in your headlights. It is not that uncommon to have animals in your yard in Bozeman, but many people ran off the road and onto the grass
trying to get a better look at these realistic looking elk.

He might be a bit tough to eat, but look at the rack on this bull!

These beautiful birds (a mating pair) were found in the Calgary, Alberta zoo aviary. This is a large building full of tropical plants, birds, and displays.

On a visit to the Oregon Coast Aquarium I saw this jellyfish in a tank. Taken by its vivid colors I couldn't help but take its photo.
